Curious House - Appliqué, Painted Frames w/ Natasha Hulse & Melissa White
Day One
Another Curious House Course spanning two days this time! Natasha has been lucky enough to create an appliqué headboard for Kit Kemp, whose Ham Yard Hotel (part of the Firmdale Hotels) has been one of my favourites since it opened. I was lucky enough to have been invited to the opening and fell in love with it from day one. I even got a sneak peek into one of the rooms and the rooftop garden.
On day one, we created an appliqué linen panel of a chosen plant with Natasha Hulse. I had brought a Japanese botanical book with me that I had recently bought from Japan House London. The colours of the magnolia inspired me, so this was the direction I decided to go in.
Day Two
On day two, we met Melissa White, another amazing decorative artist. She had created a magical wallpaper for The Bell in Ticehurst, where the courses are held. So it was amazing to meet the maker in person. She has also collaborated with the Firmdale Hotels, creating scenic wallpapers as well as Andrew Martin and then some.
Melissa taught us how to paint a frame for our appliqué artwork from the previous day. Using chalk paint by Colourman Paints and techniques to age the frame.
As always, it was such a wonderful time that Philippa of Curious House put together for us.
