A unique and spellbinding modern art gallery space in the setting of a historical house in Cambridge. Bringing art to everyone.

I cannot begin to tell you how spellbinding this place is.
One of my favourite spaces to visit. It’s totally unique. Once a house belonging to a well-travelled and curious couple, Jim and Helen Ede. They collected pieces from all over the world and opened their home to showcase their findings with the intention to humanise the gallery experience. To bring art down to a level that was attainable and able to be approached by anyone, not the just elite. The gallery was originally considered with students in mind: ‘a living place where works of art could be enjoyed… where young people could be at home unhampered by the greater austerity of the museum or public art gallery.’
It feels as if you’re being invited into someone’s home - just as it’s supposed to be. There are no labels on the beautiful works dotted around.
Consider the last photo in the carousel - it was a little space where Jim would pass books to Helen (the owners of the home pre-gallery), from the living space to the bedroom. How sweet is that!
