Hikarui; Lightweight Living

A gentle counter to the world’s overwhelm, Hikarui is a human-centred and intuitive approach to living in alignment through the moments we fill our days with.

The origins

A hybrid of the Japanese words “hikari” for visible/natural light, and “karui” for lightweight, Hikarui is a way of “lightweight living”.

Ever since I can remember, I moved through the world as someone who didn’t quite fit. My energy levels were different, and had high sensitivity to my environment and world around me. I knew conventional ways of working weren't for me, and experienced multiple burnouts at different stages through trying to conform to business models that didn't allow for operating with my own rhythms and intuition.

I needed to go against the status quo to be able to find my own voice and build a business that there are so few examples of. I don’t have it all figured out, although outer appearances may look otherwise, and want to create an allowance for this in myself and the collective by being the lived example in fully honouring the journey.

At times I can feel disconnected and ungrounded, whilst crave and work to cultivate a greater sense of wellbeing and fulfilment through a calmer, more grounded way of living. These two sides are a mirroring of life in all its beautiful, imperfect messiness. Experience has taught me to honour what resonates and to embrace the ever-changing rhythms of mood, desire, and energy, balancing the multi-facets of myself by allowing them to co-exist in complement with each other.

A guide to navigating through life

The content I create is what I seek in the world — simple, beautiful, bitesized, intuition led, human-centred, evolving and imperfect.

We see reflections of ourselves in the smallest of things; our intuition draws us to what speaks most to who we are, or are growing to become.

A walking, talking library of information and wisdom, I have always found gathering knowledge to come naturally to me. I wanted to do something with this overflow, helping guide others in the process of finding their own way of being in the world. The LBB is the manifestation of this, balancing the conceptual and practical in one home.

Through beautifully curated wellbeing, living and travel resources alongside tangible guides and shared lived experience, the LBB is a guide for navigating through life, made to meet you where you’re at to inspire small yet meaningful change towards a life that feels like home.

Spanning many iterations, the LBB was created from a place of life-long learning and experimenting without confining myself to conventional practices that don’t align. I hope that by being the example and the experimenter I can help others to find a way of moving through the world that feels kind and authentic, reflected in how we treat ourselves and those around us in life and in business practices.

Explore the LBB

“From a place of personal experience and holding space for others, I believe in our individual capabilities for becoming embodied as our own authorities in how we live and move through the world. Rather than looking for “quick fixes”, I see the deep value in cultivating inner knowing, practicing being resourceful and patient in taking the more sustainable, grounded route.”

  • Born from an exploration into ways of living gently, intuitively and intentionally, Hikarui is a gentle counter to the overwhelm and burnout of navigating through the world. A hybrid of the Japanese words “hikari” for visible/natural light, and “karui” for lightweight.

  • “Be an expression of or give a tangible or visible form to (an idea, quality, or feeling)” — Hikarui embodies a holistic, human-centred approach to navigating life, with allowance for contradictions. Showing up fully, authentically, in every aspect of life.

  • Tapping into intuition, connecting deeply with the self to take aligned action towards the life you aspire to / the life that feels authentically like yours. A perspective shift of self-ownership, moving through life with intentionality.

  • An ecosystem and a home away from home — healing and honouring the self, facilitating connection, bringing people together, nurturing communities, expanding individual and communal worlds, bringing in more compassion and kindness towards ourselves and each other.

  • An invitation into the process, in the most beautiful and open way possible, without pressure, without impulse, without misleading. To be open with the fact this is a human-centred business, built to encompass shifts in mood, weather, seasons, inspiration, energy, who I’m surrounded by and where I am in the world. A counter to perfectionism, embracing the mistakes and missteps along the way. Creating an allowance for others to move through the world in this way too.

  • Bitesized, concise, beautifully created content leading from a “show don’t tell” philosophy, made to be engaged with and implemented to gently enrich day-to-day experience, without overwhelming in adding to the world’s noise.
